unplanned HK #1

here we are... Hong Kong !
We never thought that we'll be have a family trip to Hong Kong this year.
It was unplanned.
There was a good offer for the tickets by converting out flight miles,,, so we took it.
No preparation at all!

♥♥♥

about 2 weeks before our flight,
I lost my father this March.
and it was really hard to go for a happy trip.

♥♥♥

a street in Sheung Wan central
We stayed on Ibis Budget on Sheung Wan.
Why?
this was our first time in HK. we haven't acknowledge how HK is...
so we chose an affordable chain hotel to make our life easier.
:)

♥♥♥

Arrived on Sheung Wan.
It was near the port  so almost all the neighborhood stores are Trading companies!
They sell dried salty fishes... lots of fishes... they sell something made from fish but it was like bloated by air... like a salty fish balloon....
it was everywhere. you can smell it from far.
If it was not fishes... and it must be Red dates, mushrooms, or Lou Han Kuo.
interesting.

♥♥♥

We arrived at 6 am. Yup. 6 in the morning.
Pick up by a Tesla car that we booked from Klook.
(must try ride in Tesla... no Tesla (yet) in Jakarta... Tesla is electric car if you wander what it is.)

After checked into our hotel we immediately looking for breakfast.
We didn't booked the hotel breakfast because we want to experienced HK morning...
end up in Sheung Wan Food market...
or food central... I forgot

♥♥♥

We ordered a bowl of beef sausage noodles, an egg-beef sandwiches, and tea.
sausage noodles...same like the one in SG.
Egg-beef sandwiches...yummy
tea...is Teh C.

if you aren't familar with kopitiam's term:

Teh Peng.. Ice Milk Tea
Teh...hot milk tea
Teh C,,, Tea with evaporated milk
Teh C peng... ice tea with evaporated milk

and HK tea means Tea with evaporated milk... you have to put sugar if you want it sweet...
but I don't.
I like the way it is.

The Tea.
I'm addicted to milk tea. but this is an option.
♥♥♥
The uncle and aunty was very nice. Showing us menu in Roman alphabets,
gave us seats, and gave us small bowls for sharing.
surprise!

♥♥♥

Hongkong are made for walking.

♥♥♥

Most of the terrain is split level. Especially in Sheung Wan-Central.
We didn't bring along our baby stroller nor baby carrier because we read and saw the other traveller's photos about HK streets... and
We think that if we want to explore HK.. getting lost together... stroller will only slow us.

Well...it was a lil' bit gamble... whether would / wouldn't my son walks... but
Hey.. we did it!

♥♥♥

We were going up and down.. up and down.
If you bring your babies, I recommend you to bring baby carrier. No stroller.
A lot of HK corner are narrow turns... stairs... and narrow pedestrian walks.
there were ramps..
but yeaa you have to make some more walks / turns to reach it..
or find elevator on the shopping centre...
or you don't mind lift up your baby pram down the stairs.

naaah....but we didn't have to do that...we were walking all the way!

No worries.
Signage in English are everywhere.

♥♥♥

People who I asked always told me that talking English in HK isn't easy. No Hokkien.
Only Cantonese.
this lil' bit scared me...
How we should we communicate?

My husband downloaded the translation apps that'll read words in Cantonese.
this helped.

♥♥♥

I found out myself that lots of signage was already multilinguals.
easy to look... easy to find... informative.
and they didn't mind my english...
I still able to pop some questions in SASA.

LOL.

♥♥♥

MTR
Me and my husband wearing GGGOODSTUFF bags.
very recommended for city travelling.

Cheese !
♥♥♥
MTR... Hong Kong MRT is available and affordable to go everywhere.
We started our day with MTR... and went back home with taxi...
because we walked to someplaces far from the stations.

♥♥♥

still up and down :)

♥♥♥

On the 1st day we decided to took Tram to the peak.
there was queue. A lot.
Nice that we booked the tickets early... also from Klook.

♥♥♥

The Peak is literally a peak.
a nice modern building on the top of a hill where you can see everything 360◦.
You can go up by taxi... by bus.. or by tram.
We took the tram. We were tourists :)
It was fun. Must try.

♥♥♥

Tram was earlier HK transportation.
It was going uphill, downhill, and everywhere in the city.
some Tram(s) were provided for tourism... some were still used for daily... just like the bus.
Tram made HK got this eclectic looks where modern and classic lines stand side by side.
cool!

♥♥♥

we climbed up the hill on Tram. can you feel the gradient?
♥♥♥

he dislikes the heights.
♥♥♥
try to have a proper picture but son hate to be on this heights :(
♥♥♥

at the night we walked to Tsim Tsa Shui area.
bought some local snacks ssuch us Egg Waffles and Fish balls...
and walked to the sea side watching Uncles fishing something :)

♥♥♥

found this rreally big surprise egg !
♥♥♥

Bruce Lee !

♥♥♥
somebody was tired :)

♥♥♥

 bonus tips :
bring along your best walking shoes, socks, knee supporter if you need it.
Like I said... HK are made for walking.
